Camps and Excursions

To enhance students’ learning, some classes may take part in special activities, either at school or away from it.  Every effort will be made to provide information about planned excursions through term overviews and on our school website.

On each occasion, you will be notified and your permission will be sought for your child’s participation.  Students will be unable to attend these events if written permission from parents/caregivers is not received, if there is a cost, it is to be paid in full before final date for payment

Parents’ help in attending excursions to assist with supervision will sometimes be requested.

All excursions and in-school activities require signed permission from a parent or caregiver to participate. Permission Forms will always be sent home via the student as a hard copy with a section to be returned to the classroom or specialist teacher. The Permission Form will always outline the details of the activity and any associated cost. There are times where there is no cost involved however permission is still required.

Where payment is required for an activity, an Invoice will be emailed home and also available through QParents. Unfortunately the Invoice and Permission Form have to be sent separately.

The camping program offered to students in Years 5 and 6 each year are an integral part of our co-curriculum program. The camps are designed to allow students to experience activities that will require risk taking, leadership, team work, independence and problem solving.

Year 5

The Year 5 camp normally occurs in November each year. Students travel by bus to the QCCC at Mapleton in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. The three day and two night camp experience allows students opportunities to participate in a variety of activities such as canoeing, orienteering, archery, climbing wall and glider possum. All activities are led by professional and well qualified camp instructors. Students are accompanied by Coorparoo State School teachers and staff and serves as a great introduction to the school's camp program.

The average cost for year 5 camp in recent years has been between $250.00 and $350.00

Year 6

Opportunities are provided by the students in Year 6 to travel to the nation's capital for a four day study tour to Canberra. The study tour cements the learning that has occurred in the classroom around the key areas of civics and citizenship, history and geography. The Australian Government may subsidise part of the cost of the tour through its PACER rebate. Students fly to Canberra and travel to all venues during the week by bus. Students may visit Parliament House, the Museum of Australian Democracy (formerly Old Parliament House), The Australian War Memorial as well as the Australian Electoral Commission Education Centre. Recent study tours have included visits to The Australian Institute of Sport, The National Gallery, The Indonesian Embassy, Questacon, The National Exhibition Centre, The National Museum and many other fantastic venues around Canberra. Students are accompanied by their classroom teachers and other school staff members. The four day tour usually takes place in Term 3.

The average cost for year 6 Canberra Study Tour in recent years has been between $1100.00 and $1300.00
