In memory of Thomas Gardner

In memory of Thomas Gardner, who enlisted in Machine Gun Company 11 of the Australian Army on the 1 February 1916.
Thomas Gardner enrolled at Coorparoo State School on the 26 March 1896. His family lived on Third Avenue, Coorparoo.
His brother William George Gardner also attended Coorparoo State School and enlisted in the Australian Army in 1916, joining another CSS student Lachlan Chisolm Wilson in the second light horse regiment.
Thomas departed for Europe on board HMAT Borda on the 5 June 1916 arriving on the Western Front in Northern France on the 17 January 1917.
Thomas was reported killed in action on the 7 June 1917. He was 26 years old.
Like Gavin Finlay, his body was not recovered and he has no known grave. His name is also inscribed on the archway of the Menin Gate.
He is recorded on the Australian Roll of Honour at the War memorial in Canberra on panel 145 as well as on our roll of honour here at school.
We will remember him.​
