Math Team challenge 2021 today, saw our students who have been part of the years Five and Six Math Academy program come together representing their house team to compete for house points in the Coorparoo Cup.

This competition is high level math team and individual based problem solving.  Student in teams of three solved problems against the clock.

To give you an example of some of the problems try these:

The result of multiplying a natural number by itself is a square number. Examples of square numbers are 1 x 1 = 1, 2 x 2 = 4, 3 x 3 = 9, and 4 x 4 =16. What year in the 20th century (the years 1901 through 2000) was a square number?

If you had a stack of $2 coins as tall as Mt Everest, what would this total amount of money be worth?

Approximately, how many kilograms would 1 million grains of rice weigh?

50 grains weighs about 1.5 grams.

Congratulations!

1st Fred B 6D, Ben B 6F & Lincoln M 5K - Melba

2nd Ariana H 5K, Isla S 6P, Vani J 6J - Wentworth

3rd Fraser N 5K, Charlie J 5W, Ruhin D 6P – Turner

Thank you to Will Windsor for his teaching and leadership of this program and the opportunities our students have had to work mathematically.
