As semester one draws to an end I want to thank you and congratulate our community on the efforts to make what has been a very challenging time, successful for our children.

This term in particular we have felt the effects and impacts of many sick staff and students. The teacher shortage is very much real, with our school being unable to find replacement staff many days each week, resulting in specialist teachers, and administration teachers stepping in to ensure learning goes on. I want to thank our staff for their efforts and support for our students’ learning. I want to thank our families for your ongoing support for our teachers and the efforts you have made in partnership for your children. It certainly takes a village.

While this semester has been interesting indeed, we have made it through! We started the year with a two-week delay, then followed with rain, floods and more rain. Yet in spite of this we have achieved so much academically, sporting and culturally this semester. I am very proud of our student’s success for their report cards. Take time to celebrate these achievements and plan for the semester ahead.

This week we held our celebration parade, an amazing time to celebrate and acknowledge the many achievements of our children. From Tennis competitions to Cross Country, District, Regional and State representatives in a range of sports, it is so lovely to see our children thriving and achieving their personal bests.

Our Netball Academy has already competed in their first big carnival of the season with great success! Touch football teams are developing strong skills and preparation for the season ahead. Our coaches are very happy with the effort and development and believe this will be another great year for Coorparoo. Our Math Academy students have been working hard competing in the Australian Math Olympiad and the standards continue to rise! We are so very proud of their efforts already and look forward to the final competitions.

Most recently a group of our students competed in the Philosophy competition against state and non-state schools. Two amazing teams at their first competition achieved outstanding results, winning the Logic Cup as the best logic problem solving team of the tournament, and placing second overall for the Communities of Inquiry Cup. A very special mention goes to Aarya, she is to be commended for taking out the prize for Best Emerging Philosopher.

The semester ahead is going to be so exciting! We are very happy to welcome back Grandparents Day during Ekka week! We love sharing with our extended families and this day has always been a highlight. Our musical will also be playing during this time! I can’t wait for “Singing in the Rain”. And as we head towards the next semester we will celebrate Diwali, our colour run, Junior Sports Day, state sporting titles for Netball and Touch Football and so much more!

A final favour I ask of our community is to spread the word about enrolling as soon as possible for Prep in 2023. Already many families have enrolled. We need to know who else may be coming! Demand from outside our catchment is very strong, and our class numbers ultimately determine how many new families we can bring into our school.

I trust you will have a break and spend quality time as families. I know the children are tired and have worked hard. I know the staff are also looking forward to a recharge and rest.

See you next term.

Dean Murphy, Principal
