Dear parents and carers,

Thank you for your patience as we have begun preparations for online learning during the current lockdown.

Due to the extension of the lockdown until 4pm Sunday 8 August 2021, the following arrangements will remain in place:

  • Students of essential workers or vulnerable students can continue to attend school for supervised learning.
  • Students of non-essential workers will continue to have access to remote learning.

This is an unfortunate but necessary precaution to minimise community transmission of COVID-19. I therefore ask once again that, as a school community, we work together to support each other.

QLD Health and the Education Department have asked schools to reduce where possible the amount of staff working from school. Therefore, at Coorparoo State School the majority of our teachers will be working from home supporting students & families with remote learning.

Due to the changing nature of the virus and the high numbers of young children at risk, we are also trying to limit the size of groups of children having contact. We know that there are many families in our school and staff members that are already in isolation as contacts. The Chief Health Officer has also requested that students of essential workers or vulnerable children in attendance at schools in the 11 LGAs should be arranged in small groups (i.e. 5 to 10) wherever possible to minimise any potential health risks.

Children of essential workers attending school will be supervised only. Our class teachers are working with students learning at home. Students being supervised are expected to be doing the same work as those at home.

Your child's teacher will continue to be your main point of contact during this time. Email remains the best method of communication.

In addition to materials provided by your child's teacher, students are also able to access a range of educational resources on the department's learning@home website.

All sports and extracurricular activities will be cancelled or postponed. We will update these events once we return to normal school operations.

Our onsite Outside Schools Hours Care/Early Childhood Development Program will remain closed except for children of essential workers and vulnerable children.

It is important that we all continue to follow COVID-safe practices including physical distancing and wearing face masks throughout this period.

I encourage you to continue to refer to the information on the Queensland Health website.

If you, or a member of your family, is feeling unwell or displaying known symptoms of COVID-19 please get tested, stay home and isolate until you get the results and your symptoms resolve.

I will continue to provide updates as they become available via our Facebook page and school website. I once again thank all parents and carers for your support during this lockdown and we look forward to bringing our whole school community back together again as soon as we are able to safely do so.

Yours sincerely

Dean Murphy
