Welcome to Coorparoo State School for 2021. Recent weeks we have seen the Brisbane community go through lockdown and the wearing of masks. As a community, we have done so well that restrictions are easing again.

Our school community has done an amazing job supporting our school in our COVID plans and I thank you for your support.  We hope that next week when school resumes it will be COVID normal in our school.

What will normal look like for us this year? We ask that anyone who is unwell to please stay away from the school, this includes our staff.

Social distancing and hygiene are critical. In the school, this means that adults must not congregate in or around the school grounds. All rooms and facilities in the school, have strict numbers limits. The wearing of masks is encouraged if you cannot distance.

Parents & Carers are asked not to congregate on verandas or classrooms unless you have an appointment. Communication with teachers is best via email. With prior arrangement, meetings can be arranged with your child's teacher.

Visitors to the school must still follow the sign in procedures at the office as normal. Please follow the COVID signs and directions when signing students in or out.

Our new Prep parents will all be meeting with their child's teacher in the first week. This will be an opportunity to see the classroom and discuss your child with your teacher.

One the first day of school, all of our teachers will be waiting at 8:30am outside their building to greet their students. Please do not send the whole Book Pack with your child on the first day. All students will need, is their lunch, pencil case and some pads to write on. Students can then bring a few new items each day, rather than trying to carry everything on the first day.

Day 8 for schools is Friday 5 February. Our total enrolment present on this day will determine our final staffing allocations for 2021.  Once this is known, any changes to classes and staffing will take place.

Construction works are presently underway to build our new lift for Kijini Block and a project to improve the Kijini Under croft space with sound improvement for our students. This work has experienced some delays and will not be finalised until later in the term. Work areas cannot be accessed at any time. We are excited to see this work completed.

CLASS ALLOCATION

This year class allocations will only be made available via the school website. Class placements and allocations have been developed in consultation with the previous year's teachers and Deputy Principals. Allocation decisions look at student needs, balance of classes, capacity of classes and physical spaces.

Tomorrow, Wednesday 20 January you will receive an email with a password after 2:00pm. This is required to access the Class List link on the school website, which will be available from 10:00am on Thursday 21 January.

To access the class allocations for your children you will go to our school website and click on the Class List link. Add the password provided and click on your child's 2021. Students will be in alphabetical order within their year levels.  The teacher's name will be listed plus the location of the classroom.   Maps and room allocations will also be provided.

Remember, all our students need to do is meet their teachers on the first day in the line up areas for their sector.

This is an exciting and busy time of year. Our teachers are working this week to prepare for the year ahead! We know that for many children returning to school can be exciting and sometimes they may feel nervous. Remember that how you react will influence your child's emotions. If as adults, we are calm and positive; our children will take your cues that they will be ok.

We look forward to meeting our new Prep students again and welcoming you to our school family.
