The Instrumental Music Program provides an opportunity for
students to participate in a range of musical endeavours including:
Instrumental Band, Strings, Orchestra, Percussion Ensembles, Choirs and a
Coorparoo State School values both participation and
excellence. This is reflected in our Choir Program where we have a “Coorparoo Contabile”,
which is involved in regional competitions, and both “Pop Choir” and “Kijini
Choir” who perform at our school’s “Winter Concert” and “Christmas Gala”.
Our Percussion, Woodwind and Brass teacher Mr Arnow, works
with students in Years 4, 5 & 6, who learn a range instruments from French
Horns, Clarinets, Saxophones to flutes and euphoniums. Students wishing to
participate in the program are required to sit an assessment in Term 3 of Year
Mr Arnow also conducts the senior and Junior Bands, which both
compete at Music Fest and Fanfare, as well as playing at various school events.
Ms Fleming coordinates our String Program which involves
students in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. Students wishing to join the Strings Program
are required to sit an assessment at the end of Year 2. Again our String
Ensembles compete at regional events as well as playing at school-based
Mrs Muir leads two percussion ensembles, which play modern
songs for fun, for Years 4, 5 and 6. They learn tuned percussion including
xylophones, metallophones, glockenspiels and marimbas. They also play untuned
percussion such as drums, triangles, guiros and vibraslaps.
The recorder ensemble is conducted by Ms Van Sloten, which
involves Year 3 students. Then students learn the basics of recorder playing,
as well as occasionally playing the anthem at assembly.
Coorparoo State School provides its students with a unique
opportunity to participate in a School biennial Musical. The Musical is run by
a dedicated team of Coorparoo State School community members. The quality of
past performances have been beyond expectations; they truly need to be seen to
