INSPIRE - INFLUENCE – IMPACT
Commissioned in 2021 Inspire-Influence-Impact are two artworks that describe the educational journey of Coorparoo State School students and the lasting impacts it will make on their lives and the lives of those around them.
Artist Charnel Henaway is a Birri Gubba and Juru woman from Ayr, North Queensland. In 2000, at the age of eight, she moved to Brisbane and attended Coorparoo State School. Charnel went on to attend Cavendish Road State High School and study at the University of Queensland, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree, with an Extended Major in Archaeology.
Inspire
The yellow base of the painting represents the primary colour of Coorparoo State School.
At the centre of the painting there are ten overlapping circles which represent each curriculum area taught at Coorparoo State School. Each circle is made up of seven layers of dots, each signifying a year level, Prep-Grade 6. The circles are made up of four colours white, red, blue, and green, White is placed at the start and end of each circle representing the start of a student's education at Coorparoo State School (PREP) and the end (Grade 6).
Colours red, blue and green represent the house colours, Turner, Melba and Wentworth.
Influence
Leading out from the circles are paths. Within each of these paths are hatched lines leading in different directions. These paths represent the students of Coorparoo State School who will inevitably make their own paths in life going off in different directions.
The paths are painted black, the secondary colour that represents Coorparoo State School.
Impact
The arches between the paths create a ripple effect which signify movement. These arches lead out from the centre circles representing the transfer of knowledge and information acquired from Coorparoo State School which will then be applied to the world.
Each section has a different colour, red, blue, and green, which also represents the house colours.
The second painting is an extension of Inspire-Influence-Impact.
The black arches at the top of the painting signifies movement and the transfer of knowledge acquired from Coorparoo State School.
The yellow hatching at the bottom of the painting represents the students of Coorparoo State School branching off in different directions, taking with them the information they have learnt from Coorparoo State School.
Coorparoo State School's colours yellow and black were used for the background and as part of the design. The painting is diagonally cut in half with yellow at the top and black on the bottom, replicating the school's current sports uniform.
