Student leaders at Coorparoo State School are the student representatives of our learning community. This representation is a public position with student leaders being called upon on official/ special occasions (at the discretion of the Principal) to embrace and model all values and expectations of students within our community.
In addition to this student leaders will:
- Be responsible to the school administration and should carry out all duties asked of them by any member of the school administration.
- Promote all goals and values that are important at Coorparoo State School.
- Display exemplary conduct and attitudes relating to all areas of school life.
- Work enthusiastically with fellow students in assisting the educational opportunities for all.
TIMELINE for 2026 APPLICATIONS (Note that dates are subject to change).
Stage One (13 October – 29 October 2025)
Signing and completion of Student Leader Application Form which must be attached to candidates written responses to the three selection questions that are listed on the application form. Candidates should not exceed more than 75 words for each question. Applications will then be viewed by the Application Panel (Made up of some or all of the following: Principal, Deputy Principal, Head of Curriculum, a representative from the P&C executive and teacher(s) from Year 5) with suitable candidates progressing through to stage 2.
Stage Two (10-11 November 2025)
Students prepare and deliver a speech (not exceeding 2 minutes) to the current Year 5 student body on why they wish to be considered for a position of student leadership, and how they would contribute to the wellbeing of our learning community.
Stage Three (12-21 November 2025)
If necessary, some candidates will be contacted and advised of an interview time with the Application Panel (Made up of some or all of the following: Principal, Deputy Principal, Head of Curriculum, and a representative from the P&C executive).
Stage Four (Week beginning 24 November 2025)
The Applicant Panel will deliver all rankings to the School Principal, and Parents and Citizens President for endorsement and confirmation.
Stage Five (Week of 25-27 November 2025)
The School Principal or delegate will then contact and appoint the highest ranked candidates for each of the positions. In the event a student refuses the position then the Principal will then go to the next highest ranked candidate and offer the same until acceptance is gained.
Stage Six (Term 1, 2026)
All student leaders will be sworn in at a special Student Leader Investiture Assembly and presented to the school community in 2026.
Applications may then be invited for the roles of:

POSITION DESCRIPTORS
School Captains
- To work closely with school administration in positively displaying the school and its activities to the broader community.
- Commit to and model all school values and expectations.
- Attend student council meetings and collaborate with fellow councillors.
- Assist in the co-coordination of special events held by the learning community.
- To act as a point of liaison between School Administration and the Student Body ensuring concerns, ideas and visions are communicated.
- To participate in most school calendar events including school parades, commemorative events including ANZAC day and guest visits.
House Captains
- Commit to and model all school values and expectations.
- Attend student council meetings and collaborate with fellow councillors.
- To hold Student Council management positions such as Council Chair, secretary or treasurer.
- Assist in the co-coordination of special events held by the learning community.
- To act as a point of liaison between School Administration, Student Leadership and the Student Body ensuring concerns, ideas and visions are communicated and promoted.
Music Captains
- Must be in at least one musical ensemble, for example band, strings, choir or percussion.
- Commit to and model all school values and expectations.
- Assist all music teachers in organisation of musical performances including Gala evenings.
- Participate in all rehearsals and pre-performance activities as required by the music staff and to attend all meetings with the supervising teachers.
- Motivate all music students to maintain their commitment to the school's music program.
- To speak on behalf of all music students at public events including Gala performances and parades.
Student Council Representative (year 3-6 students)
- Commit to and model all school values and expectations.
- Attend all student council meetings and collaborate with fellow councillors.
- Contribute ideas and suggestions from their class and report back to classmates regarding council initiatives.
- Assist in the co-coordination of special events held by the learning community.
- To act as a point of liaison between School Administration, Student Leadership and the Student Body ensuring concerns, ideas and visions are communicated and promoted.
Eco-Warrior (year 3-6 students)
- Commit to and model all school values and expectations.
- Assist all Green Team 'Eco-Warriors' and staff in organisation of events.
- Motivate all students to maintain their commitment to the school's Environmental programs.
- To speak on behalf of all students at public events relating to the Environment.
- To assist and support recycling collection and work done in the school garden.
- To motivate other students to maintain our school commitment to environmental programs.
- To commit to meeting regularly with the supervising teachers likely to be during break times.
Student Mentor (year 6 students)
- To participate in early phase classroom activities and events such as buddy reading, open days and tours.
- To 'buddy' a particular early phase class to assist in day to day events including play breaks, movements and transitions.
- To demonstrate and model all school values and expectations.
- To participate in early phase activities organised for play breaks, parades and possibly excursions.
- To attend 'Student Mentor' training workshops possibly during break times and outside school hours.
- To assist our House Captains (when required) in school sports activities and events, House meetings and parades, equipment allocation and collection.
Library Associate (year 6 students)
- To actively support the daily running of the library and library precinct under the supervision of the Teacher Librarian.
- To organise and manage playtime activities.
- To assist regularly with book borrowing and returns, library up keep, promotion of library events and participation in Book Week and Book Fair type activities.
- To contribute on parade about library events.
- To represent the student body in all eSmart and digital initiatives including web based learning.
German Monitor (year 6 students)
- Commit to and model all school values and expectations.
- To commit to meeting regularly with the supervising teacher likely to be during break times.
- To actively organise, support and manage playtime activities.
- To assist regularly with German activities which may occur outside of school hours and away from school.
- To contribute on parade about German events.
Cultural Captain (year 6 students)
- Commit to and model all school values and expectations.
- Assist in the co-coordination of special events held by the learning community.
- To speak at public events including performances and parades.
- To attend all meetings with the supervising teachers possibly during lunch breaks.
STEM Leader (year 6 students)
- Commit to and model all school values and expectations.
- Commit to and actively participate in regular STEM meetings & assist in the co-coordination of STEM events.
- To maintain and use school noticeboards and display boards to promote STEM topics and local and global events.
- To communicate and inform all students on Parades of recent local and global STEM events, news and inventions.
- To assist students during STEM specific lessons as mentors with devices, ideas and skills.
- To assist and participate in STEM activities in play breaks in a club or interest group.
- To represent the student body in all eSmart and digital initiatives including web based learning.
- To assist teachers with the distribution and organisation of STEM equipment in Stem storage rooms.
- Participate in Guru / update sessions when new resources become available.
- Actively model responsible and safe use of STEM resources.
STAFF NOMINATED POSITIONS
Occasionally, school staff may nominate students to undertake additional roles of responsibility in leading some of our other student groups. Previously these have included responsibilities as Athletics, Swimming, Instrumental, Choir and Strings Captains. These positions are endorsed by the school principal and are not an application based nomination.
