It was lovely to see you all yesterday, smiling and fresh for what is going to be a busy and exciting term. I am thrilled to welcome you back to Term Three and to share some wonderful news and updates.
This term, we welcome back to our PE team, Monique Elliott and Tara Morgan who will be job sharing alongside Megan Lopez who continues in the PE team. Both ladies are returning from maternity leave and are excited to be back working in this role. Monique will also be coaching the Netball Academy with continued support of Clare Ferguson who has been training our students. This week, a number of students have had call backs for the netball academy trials after our initial days last term.
Our “Fun with Maths" workshops are underway for the whole school over the next two weeks. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to engage in problem-solving with hands-on materials. This year, the school has funded all students to participate, recognising the immense learning benefits these workshops provide.
Additionally, this week, our Prep students will be participating in vision screening services conducted by QLD Health. This important service helps parents identify if their child has any vision issues that may need further investigation. If any issues are identified parents are contacted to discuss further.
On another note, the restoration of the B Block windows continues this term. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but these windows, installed in 1928, are in dire need of restoration. This project is going to be ongoing for the coming months.
I am also proud to share that our Deputy, Will Windsor, is presenting some of his work at the 15th International Convention on Mathematical Education in Sydney this week. Will leads our Year Five extension math students, teaching in a hybrid model with students from other schools. This year we are collaborating with Race View State School at Ipswich. Through his guidance, our students learn to solve mathematical problems and collaborate with peers across the state. We are incredibly fortunate to have such an esteemed math teacher and leader in our midst.
I am thrilled to share some exciting updates and upgrades that are taking place in our school hall, which will greatly benefit everyone, especially as we prepare for our upcoming school musical, “Mary Poppins Jnr".
First, I am pleased to announce the installation of new performance curtains that have been upgraded to meet the latest fire safety standards. These curtains not only enhance the safety of our students and staff but also contribute to the overall aesthetic of our performances.
In addition, we are completing the installation of new stage lighting, featuring state-of-the-art LED technology. This upgrade will allow for far more creative staging and dynamic performances, providing our students with a professional-level experience and making our productions even more captivating.
In the coming weeks, we will be installing HD projectors on our stage. These projectors will open up a world of possibilities for visual effects and multimedia integration, enriching our performances and educational presentations.
None of this would be possible without the unwavering support of our community. Your contributions and efforts have been instrumental in making these upgrades a reality. Thank you for your continued support and dedication to enhancing our school's facilities and enriching our students' experiences.
We are incredibly excited about these developments and look forward to showcasing them in our upcoming school musical, “Mary Poppins Jnr". Stay tuned for more updates and be prepared to be amazed by what our talented students and community of volunteers, will bring to the stage.
This term we have many new and exciting extra-curricular activities available. Make sure you check the school website.
This time of year, all schools across the state will complete the Annual 'School Opinion Survey'. This is an optional online survey that helps us in our planning and strategic directions. All families, school staff and students in target year levels (Year 5, 6, 8 and 11) will be invited to participate. An invitation to complete the Parent/Caregiver Survey will be emailed to one parent/caregiver per family from next week 15 July and the survey will Open on 22 July. The survey will be sent from the Department of Education, not the school, and it will have the subject line School Opinion Survey for parents and caregivers, 2024. Check Junk/Spam Folders if you do not receive it. We encourage you to take this opportunity to have your say about what our school does well, and how we can improve.
We are very excited to announce that a project we have been trying to achieve, the upgrade of Wolff Park classrooms has received some funding in the coming state budget. This year we have been working with project managers and designers to come up with a detailed concept and approvals with heritage that has given us a blueprint for this work. Now we have secured some funding we hope to be able to commence work this financial year, to start improving these important spaces for our children.
