A MESSAGE FROM OUR CULTURAL CAPTAINS
NAIDOC week is the 6th to 13th of July and is a week-long celebration when people come together and celebrate and acknowledge the histories, accomplishments and cultures that the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have contributed to the Australian society.
This year is the 50th anniversary of NAIDOC week and it is celebrated because it marks a powerful milestone honouring and elevating indigenous voices, culture and resilience.
This year’s NAIDOC theme is "The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy", highlighting the strength and resilience of young Indigenous leaders and the importance of their vision for the future.
At Coorparoo State School we will be celebrating NAIDOC week from 23-27 June. Students will have the opportunity to do Indigenous activities such as stories in the library, artwork in the STEAM room, games on Kijini oval and Wilkes Green and Move It Mob Style Hip Hop in the school hall. NAIDOC cupcakes will be on sale at the school’s tuckshop and students to wear an Indigenous shirt or Interschool house shirt on Friday. It will be an enjoyable week of celebrating Indigenous culture.
From your Cultural Captains,
Sehaj and Stephen
