VICTORIA CROSS ART COMPETITION
2025 is the 110th anniversary of the Gallipoli campaign in World War 1, the 80th commemoration of VE Victory in Europe in World War 2, and the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War.
These campaigns saw many acts of bravery by Australian soldiers, some of whom received the highest award for valour, being the Victoria Cross.
Mr Ray Raines, a member of the Coorparoo RSL and Vietnam War veteran, has donated a replica of the Victoria Cross awarded to Australian servicemen during the Vietnam War to Coorparoo State School.
Mr Raines has also donated Victoria Cross replicas from the Afghanistan War as prizes for an Art Competition.
Students from Years 3 to 6 are invited to enter a piece of artwork that represents the qualities of the Victoria Cross such as courage, self-sacrifice, devotion to duty, loyalty, determination and leadership.
Students are invited to submit a drawing or painting for consideration by Mr Raines by Monday June 2. Please deliver your named artwork to the Office.

Advisory:
The nature of the Victoria Cross is that it is awarded for bravery during wartime, for conspicuous valour in the presence of the enemy. The information about the recipients therefore includes some facts about combat. The recipients below were awarded the VC for rescuing or protecting their fellow soldiers. Parents and Carers are advised to view the information before deciding if it is suitable.
